Fashion Makeover: "Jungle" Skirt

I absolutely love clothes.  I think most of you know this by now.  But I also love love love clothes that are passed down from older generations of my family.  I love the idea of wearing something that my mom wore when she was my age or something my grandmother wore when she was my age.  Some of you know I wore a dress that was my mom's dress to my bridal shower.  I love that dress.  And one great thing about that dress was that it needed no alterations to fit me or fit my style.

 

Well, my grandmother recently started going through her closet and gave me a few items out of it.  Now, it will take me awhile to go through the items and get them all altered to fit me or get them updated to something that seems more modern, but I wanted to give you a first glance at one item she gave me. 

 

This skirt - I call the jungle skirt - is something I would never pick out for myself if I saw it in a store.  But when I put it on, it just felt fun.  It was way too big, but still fun.  I went and got it altered and taken in a bit, and a zipper added, and now it fits great.  It is just a fun long skirt.  Definitely not something most girls would have - or maybe even choose to wear - but I love it.  I love the pattern, I love the fringe, I just love the memories of times that my grandmother wore the skirt.

Valentine's Day Celebration (a little late)

I love Valentine's Day.  One of the reasons I love it (probably the biggest reason I love it) is that it gives me an excuse to dress up.  And dress up I did.  I am a huge girly girl and months ago I spotted this skirt -- this gold sequin skirt and I knew I had to have it.  The problem was - I had no where to wear it to.  My weeks are spent in work wear attire of suits and slacks -- definitely not a sequin skirt to work.  My weekends are spent in jeans and sweats.  And the hubby is not one who likes to dress up for going out.  So here I was, with this wonderful skirt in my closet just starring at me for months.  And FINALLY, Valentine's Day had come and we had reservations to go out to a fancy restaurant the weekend after Valentine's Day and I knew the day of the skirt had come.  I was super pumped if you had not figured that out yet. 

This was the hubby and my 8th Valentine's Day together since we started dating (9th if you count the Valentine's Day the month before we were officially dating where the hubby (then just a boy) showed up at my door with a home made Valentine's Day card and a mix cd -- oh the days where courtship included a mix cd).

We had a fun evening out together - even if the hubby didn't enjoy getting dressed up - but I had a wonderful time getting all dolled up.  The food was fantastic and the evening was a nice break from the normal routine.

Favorite Fashion of the Week

It's been a couple weeks since I have posted any favorite fashion -- plus it's been a week since I have posted anything.  So for today - you get two favorite outfits.  Both of which are dresses and both of which are from Old Navy - which is crazy to me because I never shop at Old Navy, but when I saw a commercial for their dresses and how cheap they were I had to go -- and of course I found a couple that I loved.  All girls should go check them out while the deals are going on now!

 



Fashion Favorite of the Week

Sometimes a simple black suit is all a girl really needs.  It is sharp, classy, and always looks great....

Fashion Favorite of the Week

My favorite fashion accessory to introduce you to this week is my watch.  I have never ever ever ever been a watch person, however, with the bar exam this summer I decided to buy one in case the power went out and there was no longer a count down clock at the front of the room. 

 

So..I headed to Macy's this summer, looked at multiple watches, and picked my favorite one.

 

I love it because it is feminine, but not huge like a lot of the watches that are out right now.  It goes with everything I wear.  I have also found that having a watch is quite helpful rather than continually pulling out my cell phone when I need to see what time it is (yes I am saying this even though I have grown up in the cell phone only generation).

Favorite Fashion of the Week

This week I bring you my two favorite outfits - both from The Limited (are you getting tired of me saying that?).  First up is a green skirt with a dark purple top and white jacket.  I am still unsure how I feel about the white jacket but we tried it out this week.

 

(and yes I know my head is missing in this picture...but apparently Thursday was not a good hair/face day for me picture wise)

 

This next outfit I love because it is comfortable with just a black 3/4 length sleeve shirt and then a pop of color teal ankle pants.

Favorite Fashion of the Week

This week I didn't take any pictures of any of my outfits...however, I did get a really cute hair clip yesterday so that is my favorite fashion accessory of this week.

 

It is a silver and white-ish hair clip from Banana Republic AND it was only $15.  That is a really good price for a place that BR.  They also had a leopard print one that was super cute.

This week's favorite outfit again comes from The Limited and again is a dress.  I love this dress because it is comfortable, colorful, and it is not just plain and simple.

Favorite Outfit of the Week

This week's favorite outfit is a versatile dress from The Limited.  Usually I prefer three piece outfits of either pants/skirts/shorts with a top and a jacket/sweater.  However, dresses really are an outfit of ease.  It is one piece that you just throw on and then you are done, with the possibility of a sweater or jacket.  This dress is super versatile and neutral enough for work or going out with a pair of heels.

 

One of my favorite parts of the dress -- pockets.  Any dress with pockets is a must have.

Week two back at work is almost over...and again I am loving wearing normal work clothes again after two plus months of sitting around in sweat pants.

And again...my favorite outfit comes from The Limited - this jacket should still be in stores.

I love a little pop of color that adds brightness to my day...



Back to Work...

After being halfway through my first week back at work after taking 2+ months off to study for the bar, I am exhausted.....BUT my favorite thing about being back to work is wearing actual clothes again.  For the past few months all I have been wearing is sweat pants around the house.  And I have to say that I am so glad I am back to wearing real clothes again.  Putting on an outfit that you love just gives you such confidence for the rest of the day.

My favorite outfit so far this week came today and all the pieces are from The Limited (my fav store).  Here's a pic for you:

Love going to concerts with this boy!!!  We spent Saturday just enjoying the day of softball and a Colbie Caillat and Gavin Degraw concert.

Pretty perfect day having fun and relaxing with my boy...would have been even better if I didn't have to spend part of my day with BARBRI...but still an awesome day!!!
