My new church's first event...

This past Saturday, the new church plant that I am a part of had its first Community Day Event.  About 300 people from the neighborhood area came to the event.

Here are two of my favorite people advertising for it

Here is the hubby looking oh so excited to be a part of this event and a part of this new church.
I was so excited to have some of my law school friends come to check out the event!  They especially enjoyed all the baked goods that I baked for the event.

Although we had a lot of rain for the first part of the event, we still enjoyed ourselves.  The kids loved playing in the rain, and before the event was over the sun came back out to warm us up and dry us all off.

My parents came to enjoy the event too!

My sister and nephew also came.  He had a blast on all the moonbounces/water activities.

The best friend and I enjoyed ourselves throughout the day.

One of my favorite mothers and daughters came to the event.  They had a blast and enjoyed the sunny weather after the rain went away.

And here is my sister and my nephew after they enjoyed hanging out and playing on the moon bounces.

Overall, it was a fantastic day.  Check out more info about the new church here and here

And come check out the official launch service of the church on September 9th!

Happy Birthday Ann!!!

This past Saturday we celebrated my wonderful Mother in Law's birthday.  She is the perfect mother in law to have and it was a fun evening of celebrating with the family.

My top five favorite things about her are:

1. She knows that her son is not perfect. :)
2. She encourages me constantly and I know she always believes in me.
3. She brought her son up in the Lord and helped to make him the man he is today.
4. She always makes sure when she makes the family dinner that there is food on the table that I like.
5. She is an amazing grandmother to her current grandchildren, and I know she will be an amazing one for my future children.

Things You May Not Know About Me

So, my friend Laura whose blog is here wrote a blog based on the Liebster Awards, and I am pretending she nominated me for it so that I can continue the trail of on it on this blog.  Here are the rules:

The Rules

1. Create a blog post included 11 random facts about yourself
2. Answer the 11 random questions from the blogger who nominated you
3. Give this award to at least 5 blogs up to 11 and link to them in the post
4. Tell those people you nominated them
5. You cannot nominate the person who has nominated you
6. Remember to tag blogs with less than 200 followers

So here we go...

11 Random Things About Me...

1. I was married at age 19.  I started dating the hubby at age 16 and although many people thought the relationship would not last...we just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary, which was the best one yet.

2. I love my job (most days).  Other days it stresses me to no end.  I work at my mom's law office whose website is here.  I love that I feel like I am always helping people when their world is falling apart on them and they feel lost.  I love that we are there to give them the reality of the situation and hopefully offer them some hope.  No one likes to have to go to an attorney, so I hope that we are able to at least make their experience one that gets them a result that they could not achieve on their own and one that puts them in a better place.

3. I am absolutely terrified of finding out the results of the bar exam.  For one, I am afraid of finding out that I failed.  On the other hand, I am also afraid of finding out that I passed because then other people's lives will truly be put in my hands and that is a huge responsibility to handle.  However, I hope I never forget what a responsibility that is and keep in mind that this is not just a job, but a chance to truly affect people's lives.

4. On a lighter note, the first day I drove my car I drove it into a pole and tore the bumper off of my mom's car.  At least when my mom saw it she laughed and didn't cry.  Two minutes later (after duct taping the bumper back on) she made me drive on the busy parkway and made me then get over my fear of hitting things with my car.

5. I love all things girly.  Dresses...nail polish...make-up...anything that makes me feel pretty.

6. I enjoy going to baseball and hockey games...but I hate watching them on tv.  Something about watching it on tv just bores me to death usually unless it is a paramount game like a playoff.  However, I love watching football games on tv.

7. It annoys me to no end when my office is a mess and disorganized.  Yet, my house always seems to be that way and I have no ambition to straighten it when I am at home.

8. I still have trouble swallowing pills.  (I know I am such a baby).  I still carry around children's tylenol in my purse to take when I have a headache.

9. I really wish I knew how to dance - like really dance.  I love having dance parties and spinning around my living room, but I really do wish I could dance like the people on So You Think You Can Dance.

10. I found out today that I am not pregnant.  The hubby and I started trying about a month ago.  When I got the phone call from the doctor, I have to say, I was quite disappointed.  But reality has set in and I have to realize, this was our first month of trying - God's timing is perfect.  He will provide a child when it is the perfect time.  And a month of trying is really not that much.  To be honest, I am just not even going to think about it and it will happen when it happens.

11.  And finally, I am super pumped to be a part of a new church plant in the area.  If anyone is looking for a church come check it out for sure - Here is the blog and here is the website.

Laura's 11 questions

1. What is your current ringtone?
Honestly, I don't even use ringtones.  My phone is ALWAYS on vibrate and that alone is super loud.

2. Favorite thing to do on a Friday night?
It depends on the Friday night.  I love to go out with friends (baseball games, movies, dinner), but some nights all I want to do is curl up on the couch at home and watch tv.

3. What do you usually have for breakfast?
Usually a bagel with peanut butter or cereal and milk

4. Do you have any superstitions?
Nope.

5. If you had to do it over again what would you study in school?
I would probably do something more fun and interesting as opposing to the Public Administration Degree I received, because in reality, I could have gone to law school with any degree from Art History to Science to Government to Spanish.  I definitely wish I had taken some photography or art type classes.

6. What TV shows are you into right now?
Right now - Bachelor Pad, So You Think You Can Dance, Masterchef, Hell's Kitchen.  I am also re-watching all of the episodes of Grey's Anatomy right now as most of the shows I watch are not on during the summer.  Cannot wait for the fall line-up.

7. What's the last concert you went to?
Gavin Degraw and Colbie Caillat

8. What was your first AIM screen name?
singerbbabe88 I think

9. Favorite birthday memory?
Umm...this one is hard.  I really enjoyed the first birthday I had after Sam and I started dating.  He took me on a cruise on the Potomac.

10. What was your first paying job?
Lifeway Christian Stores

11. If someone gave you $500 for no reason, what would you spend it on?
Well what I really need money for is student loans, but $500 won't really make a dent in that.  I would probably try to save some of it and then give some of it to our new church plant.

And now...the bloggers I am passing this on to...

My 11 questions for you
1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
2. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
3. What names have you picked out for future children?
4. Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?
5. Favorite vacation you have had?
6. If money were not an issue, what job would you like to have?
7. How many states have you been to and which was your favorite?
8. Describe your first date
9. What is your favorite movie?
10. Do you have any holiday traditions?
11. Who is your secret hollywood crush?

Now get to it!

Nationals on my mind...

I have to say, ever since marrying the hubby I have become much more of an avid sports fan.  I love watching football and cheering for my Dallas Cowboys.  I love going to baseball games and cheering for my Washington Nationals.  (And yes, I realize I am cheering for teams from different states and even a team that is the main rival some say to the Washington football team, but oh well.  My loyalties lie where they do).  Right now on all the sports radio shows in the area, everyone is talking about Stephen Strasburg and his inevitable early end to his season because of his inning limit this season.  He had a Tommy John surgery to repair his injury from 2010 and this season he has been on fire.  However, his doctor and General Manager of the Nationals Mike Rizzo have stated that Stephen will only be allowed to pitch 160-180 innings this season in order to keep him healthy for the future.

Now, personally, I would love to continue to see him play, however, if his doctor believes that this is the best option, I have to trust that.  I have heard numerous interviews on the radio from others who believe that if Stephen's arm is healthy and he is feeling no pain then there is no reason to stop his season short.  This makes sense as well, however, these people may not have all the information that the team or his doctor have.

Either way, I do not think that the Nationals fans should be super worried for our team.  Currently, we have the best record in baseball and are leading our eastern conference division.  We have the best pitchers a team could ask for and I think many are relying too heavily on Stephen to win the World Series for us and discounting the players we will still have if Stephen is benched.

We have Gio Gonzalez with an ERA of 3.29 and WHIP of 1.14.  We have Jordan Zimmermann with an ERA of 2.38 and WHIP of 1.09.  We have Ross Detwiler with an ERA of 3.18 and WHIP of 1.16.

Yes Stephen is amazing and we will miss him with his ERA of 2.91 and WHIP or 1.13 - BUT WE STILL HAVE GREAT PITCHERS.  And I am super excited to watch this team make it to the playoffs and hopefully make a run for the World Series title.  I heard on the radio that it has been almost 80 years since the Nationals have made it to the playoffs (not sure if that is correct) - but everyone in the Washington area should be pumped and excited that our team is so amazing this year!  I know I am.  And I am pumped to go watch them tonight!

In reality, we need to support our team.  It is fine to not agree with the decision that will most likely occur if Stephen is benched before the season is over - but we need to still support our team and realize that our team can still win.

Here is a couple good articles on the issue:

Celebrating Our Anniversary

Saturday was the hubby's and my five year wedding anniversary.  It is crazy to think we have been married for so long, yet it feels like forever.  Time is weird like that.

Well I have to say that this was my favorite anniversary yet.  I just enjoyed spending the day with my hubby and doing fun activities throughout the day.

First up - sleeping in.  This was much needed as I have been exhausted lately.

Next up - lunch brought home to me by the hubby from Chick-fil-a

Next up - to the NRA range where I had my second lesson by the hubby in shooting.  It was so fun and I am definitely getting better.  See the bull's eye I shot!

And of course I played with some settings on my camera...

Then we got all fancy -- and I love that my dress was originally priced at $150 and I got it for $30.  Yay sales.

Then we drove to Charles Town, WV to have dinner and bet on some horse races - which was SO MUCH FUN!!!  We even won on one of the races we bet on.

Best anniversary ever!!!

Double Date Night

To start off our anniversary weekend, the hubby and I went on a double date with two of our friends.  We took lots of pictures with my new camera.

Then we went out to eat at a restaurant none of us had ever been to before.  The restaurant was fantastic - build your own burgers with whatever you want.  I am a somewhat plain person so I just got carrots and lettuce on my burger (yes, I sound like a rabbit).  The boys had things like fried eggs, jalopenos, and other such crazy items.  And the fries there were amazing.  That really is the true test of any restaurant - how good are their fries.

Then we took pictures by the fountain....

And finally...we decided to pick outfits out for each other...obviously some of us decided to just make each other look silly

All in all it was a fun filled night out!

My Anniversary Present

My wonderful husband bought me the best anniversary present - a new camera - and it is amazing.  I had been talking for the past couple months about how I wanted a new camera and I had even asked my friend who has a blog here about what camera she would recommend.  She recommended a few and I had forwarded that info to the hubby...but I thought he hadn't paid much attention to it.  Little did I know he saved that list and bought one of the cameras that she had recommended.

Well over the past 3 days I have taken almost 700 pictures...guess this means I like my present.

Here are a few that were taken the first night we had the camera:

I think we are a very cute family if I do say so myself....
Be ready for plenty of new photos!
